Jean (Hofer) Justman of La Crescent, MN passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2012, after a courageous, 19 month battle with cancer, with family members at her side. Jean was born on January 1, 1953 to Edward and Lillian (Jolivette) Hofer in La Crosse, WI. On April 28, 1984 she married Joseph J. Justman in Mindoro, WI and they lived in La Crosse for 8 years before moving to La Crescent in 1993. She attended St. Thomas More and Aquinas High Schools in La Crosse. Upon graduating she obtained her cosmetology license and worked at several La Crosse hair salons before taking a managerial job at the then fledgling salon/retail chain Trade Secret in La Crosses Valley View Mall. She went on to become regional manager with the company and saw it grow from a couple of stores in Wisconsin to many stores across the Midwest. After the sale of Trade Secret to Regis, Jean took a position with Xerox at Trane Company doing meter reads, cleaning and doing small repairs on copy machines. As business expanded she was promoted to area manager and serviced accounts in Rochester, Lake City, Winona and La Crosse. Jean was instrumental in growing Xeroxs business with Trane to a nation-wide account with Tranes current owner Ingersoll-Rand. She has earned top performance awards three times with this years award being the Presidential Award for top sales growth, which would have included a future trip to Rome, Italy to attend the award ceremony.
Jean is survived by her husband Joseph J. Justman of La Crescent, MN, son Joseph E. Justman of Winona, MN, special nephew Jordan Justman of Holbrook, AZ, mother Lillian Hofer of La Crescent, MN, brothers Steven (Margaret) Hofer of Prior Lake, MN, Thomas (Mary) Hofer of La Crosse, WI, sisters Lynn (David) Holtze of La Crosse, WI, Katherine (Thomas) Edwards of Black River Falls, WI, Terri Hofer of La Crescent, MN, Beth (Stephen) Deneau of North St. Paul, MN, brothers-in-law William Justman of Twin Falls, ID, Richard (Laurette) Justman, Kenneth (Redgie) Justman and Ronald (Cheryl) Jusman all of Holbrook, AZ, many nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her father Edward Hofer, brother Michael Hofer, sister-in-law Diane (Justman) Ousley and several aunts and uncles.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 5-7 PM at the Schumacher- Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the funeral home with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Rev. Al Jakubowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family, Gundersen Lutheran Oncology Department, or Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Program, both of which the family would like to thank for their excellent care.
