Arleen was born April 2, 1928 in La Crosse, WI to Claude and Bertha (Kuschel) Akright. She was a 1946 graduate of La Crosse Central High School. On April 12, 1952, she married Harlan F. (Peany) Michaels, the love of her life. They made La Crosse their home and at the time of his death in 1997 they had been married 44 years. For the last few years she resided in La Crescent with her son and daughter-in-law.
Arleen was employed at the La Crosse Tribune for 24 years as an advertising clerk and layout specialist until she retired in 1976. Grandma was a thoughtful person who took great pride in remembering each and every family members birthday and special date. She also enjoyed playing dominos with her friends. Arleen was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she developed many friendships over the years.
Survivors include her six children; Ross (Beth) Michaels of Middleton, WI, sons Kevin and Brian Michaels; Lynn (Ralph) Yates of La Crescent, MN, children Else (John) Larson, Gordon (Lauren) Yates, Peter Yates; Cindy (Richard) Brandau of Minong, WI, children Carmen Brandau (fianc Tim Czechowic), Justin (Erica) Brandau; Gary (Sandra) Michaels of La Crosse, WI, children Jake (Kim Veglahn) Michaels, Jordan and Taylor Schrock; Todd (Tami) Michaels of La Crescent, MN, children Tiffany (Jamie) Johnston, Joe (Stephanie) Michaels, Matt (Cassie) Michaels; Kelly (Helen) Michaels of Galesville, WI. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Norma) Akright of Littleton, CO, brother-in-law Gerald (Mary) Michaels of La Crosse, WI, sister-in-law Phyllis Michaels and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Pastor Roger Hjelle will officiate. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and from 10 a.m.until the time of services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Capital Campaign Fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
