Mark D. Hill, 79, of La Crescent, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born on June 18, 1932 in Hokah, MN to Elmer and Gladys (Stinson) Hill. Mark served with the US Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He married Janice La Fleur on January 9, 1954 in St. Peters Catholic Church, Hokah. Mark had worked at Norplex in La Crosse for over 38 years and had owned and operated the Sportsmans Bar in La Crescent. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, all of the cruises and traveling to over 70 countries , and attending the Queens coronation in 1952. Mark loved to talk, and had a great sense of humor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Eagles Club, the Moose Lodge, VFW, and the Gittens Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent.
He is survived by his wife Jan, three children, Mark Butch Hill, Debra Hill, and Brian Buzzbe Hill, his two little puppies, Taz and Tasha, two sisters-in-law, Louise Hill of La Crescent and Mary Hill of Madison, WI, a brother-in-law, Albert (Karen) La Fleur of Madison, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Gladys, his mother and father-in-law, Bert and Elsie La Fleur, two brothers, Jack and Richard, two sisters, Luana and Sharon, and a brother-in-law, Gene Moore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Crucifixion Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent on Friday from 4:00 7:00 PM and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. A Masonic Service will be held Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the donors choice in Marks memory.
