She was born in Norton Township, Illinois on May 22, 1915, to Louis and Elenora (Fehrman) Elmhorst. She married Ralph Carrell and he preceded her in death in 1978.
Julia lived most of her adult life in Milwaukee and worked for several businesses in the Milwaukee area before retiring. She moved to La Crosse to be closer to family about three years ago.
Julia was a faithful, Christian woman who enjoyed playing Scrabble, reading novels, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, Richard Carrell of La Crosse; three grandchildren, Loren (Cassie) Carrell of Onalaska, Julie Ann (Baptiste) Carrell of St. Paul, Minn., and Emily J. Carrell of Oxford, Miss.; two great grandchildren, Kyan and Samuel; one sister, Litta Rowe of Owen, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Julia was also preceded in death by her sisters, Eleanor Elliott and Edna Bulgreen; and her brother, Edward Elmhorst.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 12th, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. A prayer service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. William Bader officiating.
