Francie R Gehler

Francie R. Gehler, 93 of La Crosse died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility. She was born October 9, 1918 in Chaseburg, WI to Joseph and Mary (Mlsna) Hohfeld. On May 21, 1949 she married George E. Gehler in La Crosse and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1996.

Francies interests included needle work and gardening and turning her efforts from the garden into wonderful meals to share. She enjoyed dancing and card playing with her friends and was a member of the Stoddard American Legion Post 315 Auxiliary. Francie was a fun loving, generous, kind and welcoming person. We will miss her playful observations and lively remarks for which she was known.

Francie is survived by two children; Stuart (Judy) Gehler of Eau Claire and Cheryl (Pete) Hansen of La Crosse; three grandchildren; Barbra Hansen of La Crosse and Emily Hansen of St. Paul, MN and Matthew Gehler of Arizona; a great-grandson, Austin Hendricks of Eau Claire; along with two sisters-in-law; Carol Mullen of Chippewa Falls, WI and Therese Bruseth of Milwaukee. In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Proksch and Victoria Schock as well as her brother, Joseph Hohfeld, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 30th at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Douglas Robertson officiating. Friends and family may call at the church on Friday from noon until the time of services. A private family entombment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Bethany-Riverside Lighthouse Wing or an organization of choice. Francies family would like to thank the entire staff at Bethany-Riverside for their loving care and support during her stay.
