James R. Lawrence, 86 of La Crosse, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center, La Crosse. He was born December 5, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to Herbert and Margaret (Morrissey) Lawrence. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 serving two years then went on to graduate with a Bachelors degree in History from Creighton University, Omaha. In 1962 he came to La Crosse to teach History at Viterbo College until his retirement in 1991. On August 17, 1966 James married Dorothy Marx at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in La Crosse. He was a member of the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 La Crosse.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of La Crosse, one sister Dorie Lawrence and her son James both of Minneapolis, MN. and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Margaret. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center and Meadow Wood Assisted Living for all their wonderful care.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Mary Mother Of The Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Entombment with military honors will follow in the St. Francis Of Assisi Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the Church on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of services.
