She was born on May 16, 1919, in the Town of Farmington in rural La Crosse County, to Milton and Lonnie (Kirschner) Pfaff. She was baptized on July 14, 1919 and confirmed on May 15, 1932, at Burr Oak Lutheran Church, and was a 1937 graduate of Mindoro High School.
On July 2, 1941, Sylvia married Henry Stetzer. They lived in Chicago and Onalaska, eventually settling in rural Hokah, where they had a hobby farm. She became a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Sylvia had a very large garden and helped Henry with raising pigs, chickens, pumpkins and squash. She was a great mother to her only child, Donna, and Sylvias grandchildren and great grandchildren spent many days of their childhood at the farm and have many memories of the fun they had there.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Deanna (Harley, Jr.) Welscher, Sherry (Kevin) Turner, Lisa Bulman, Todd Schroeder, and Tony (Gwen) Schroeder; great grandchildren, Ryan, Carrie and Christy Welscher, Kevin, Brooke, and Nicholas Bulman, and Cameron and Elliott Schroeder; her son-in-law, Paul Olson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her daughter, Donna; and her eight siblings.
Sylvia is at peace now, without worries or pain and happy to be reunited with all who went before her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28th, at 11:00 a.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Hokah. Rev. Michael G. Sheppard will officiate. Burial will take place in Burns Cemetery in rural Bangor, Wis. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is assisting the family with arrangements.
