David H. Deters, 64 of La Crossepassed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Lakeview Healthcare Center in WestSalem following an extended illness. He was born July 22, 1947 in Caledonia,Minn. to Harold and Carol (Burton) Deters and graduated from Waukon High Schoolin Waukon, IA in 1965. David then received his Bachelors Degree in Spanishfrom the University of Iowa in 1969. In 1973 he received his Masters of Divinityfrom Dubuque Theological Seminary. On June 9, 1973 he married Charlene Clay inManchester, Iowa. David continued his education by receiving his MastersDegree in Spanish in 1975 and his Masters Degree in Counseling in 1977 bothfrom the University of Iowa.David had worked as a counselor/instructorin English as a second language at the Muscatine Community College inMuscatine, Iowa from 1977 until 1988. He then served as Pastor for St. Paul andSt. Lukes United Church of Christ in Alma and Cochrane, WI from 1990 until hisretirement in 1994. David was an artist who loved drawing and restoring antiqueframes as well as listening to sacred music and hymns.In addition to his wife Charlene heis survived by a sister; Andrea (Bill) Iwen of Algoma, WI; his twin brother,Michael (Pat) Deters of Waterloo, IA; a brother-in-law, Ron (Gail) Clay ofHolland, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Marlene (Jim) Sivwright of Plymouth, IA; 12nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death byhis parents.Memorial services will be held at1:30 P.M. Friday, May 11th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200West Avenue S. La Crosse with Rev. Bill Hoglund officiating.  Friends and family may call at the funeralhome on Friday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowersmemorials are suggested to the Childrens Miracle Network.
