Alfred C. Bud Krause, 81, of La Crosse, died at his home on Friday, May 11, 2012.
He was born in La Crosse on August 17, 1930, to Alfred C. and Marguerite (Kriese) Krause, Sr. Bud attended Holy Trinity Grade School and was a graduate of Aquinas High School. On August 13, 1949, Bud married Rosemary Novak in La Crosse. Rosemary preceded him in death on April 16, 2003.
Bud worked as a meat cutter in La Crosse for many years, working at Bakalars Sausage Co., Boulevard Foods, and National Food. He then worked in the maintenance department at U.W.-La Crosse for ten years before retiring. Bud served in the Navy Reserves for a short time and was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52. He was also a member of Eagles Aerie 1254 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1920.
In his earlier years, Bud was an outstanding amateur golfer. He also had the opportunity to caddy for Sam Snead in 1947 when he came to La Crosse to golf. Later in life, Bud loved singing karaoke at the Moose Lodge with family and friends and also enjoyed doing a little gambling at the casinos.
Bud is survived by his son, James Krause of La Crosse; grandson, Colin Krause and his fianc, Megan Baker, and her son, Luke, all of La Crosse; and granddaughter, Courtney Hughes and her husband, Brian, of Menasha, Wis. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Dick Krause (friend, Judy DeLap) of La Crosse, Jackie (Clint) McClintock of Rock Island, Ill., Gary (Dian) Krause of Viroqua, Tom Krause of Genoa, Judy (Geno) Mitby of La Crosse, and John (Joyce) Krause of Viroqua; a brother-in-law, Jim Young of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kathy Krause; a sister, JoAnn Young; a brother, Don Tutz Krause; five nieces and nephews, Kimberly Krause, Joseph Young, Danny Mitby, and Gary and Rob Krause; and a special friend, Dorothy Hoesley.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17th, at 1:00 p.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Rev. Ted Dewald will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from noon until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Danny Mitby Childrens Diabetes Fund.
