Eugene Ewald Loeffler, 84, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in La Crosse on October 19, 1927, to Ewald and Rose (Kaufman) Loeffler. On January 5, 1947, he married the former Jane Ann Fuchselat First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Gene served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a long-time member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse. He retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles after a long career as a drivers license examiner. He then started his own business, Mohawk Valley Camper Sales, which he and Jane ran for several years until his complete retirement.
Gene survived by his wife, Jane Ann; a daughter, Diane Kelleher of Robbinsdale, Minn.; his sons, David Eugene Loeffler and his wife, Lynda, of La Crosse, Dr. Don Charles Loeffler, D.C. and his wife, Tracey, of Plano, Texas, and James Michael Loeffler, and his wife, Nancy, of La Crosse; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Loeffler, and her long-time companion, Connie Clark, of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29th, at 11:00 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
