Valera G Thoreson

Valera G. Thoreson, 99, of La Crosse, died on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born on January 14, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois to August and Alma (Schultz) Plikuhn. She married Myron Thoreson on December 17, 1936. She and Myron lived in the Thoreson House in Westby for many years before moving to Chicago. In 1992 they moved back to the La Crosse area. Valera was very active in the Quilters and Mary Circle at English Lutheran Church. In addition to quilting she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters Nancy Borgen of La Crosse and Kathleen (Gary) Grohovena of Tinley Park, IL, one son Larry Thoreson of Alsip, IL, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2012 at English Lutheran Church. Rev. Duane Baardseth will officiate. Burial will follow in the Coon Prairie Cemetery, Westby, WI. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service. Memorials are preferred. The Schumacher Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.
