Winnie E. Papenfuss, 68, of rural Dakota, Minn., died unexpectedly, on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 1, 1944 to Milton and Clara (Peterson) Henderson. She married Lawrence Papenfuss on December 10, 1960, at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church in Nodine, Minn.

Winnie worked at Lake Center Industries in Winona for 22 years until retiring. She was an avid hunter and was a Boone & Crocket record holder, having a 19 point buck entry which scored a 230. She also enjoyed fishing and the peaceful quiet time it gave her.

Winnie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be sorely missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; her children, Larry (Gina) Papenfuss, Todd (Donnalee) Papenfuss, and Kim Mayer; her grandchildren, Matthew Papenfuss (Kristen Wotta), Samantha Papenfuss (fianc, Matthew Krage), Alex Solum, and Nick Solum; and her great grandchildren, Emerson Papenfuss and Hayden Papenfuss. She is further survived by a brother, Norman Henderson; brothers-in-law, Alton (Pat) Papenfuss, Marvin (Linda) Papenfuss, Rev. Charles (Kim) Papenfuss; sisters-in-law, Arlis Feehan, Darlene (Claude) Patzner, Tina (Dennis) Gile, Rosie Henderson, and Dorothy Henderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Clara Henderson; brothers, Melvin, Cecil, and Wayne Henderson; son-in-law, Earl Mayer; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Harriett Papenfuss; brothers-in-law, Wayne Baldy Papenfuss and Mike Feehan; sisters-in-law, Delores Henderson and Georgine Nagel; and a nephew, Jeff Henderson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church in Nodine. Rev. Dennis Harbach will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 111 South Oak St., La Crescent, on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
