Larry J. Spindler, 76 of La Crosse, passed away at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center on Friday, June 29th following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hoven, SD., on April 26, 1936 to Elmer and Anna (Mellenbach) Spindler. He married Joanne Snow in Onaka, SD., on June 11, 1960.
Larry had proudly served his country as an Army Ranger and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Larry loved to hunt pheasant and shoot pool. He was also a very dedicated Green Bay Packers fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who would go out of his way to help those in need. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Joanne of La Crosse, he is survived by one daughter Lynnae (Manuel) Rivera of Onalaska, WI., one son Brian Spindler of Onalaska, four grandchildren; P.Giovanni, Brittni, Kalyn, and Blade, three sisters Joyce (Buster) McQuown of Seneca, S.D., Janet Brickell of Colorado Springs, CO., Alayne (Donald) Meyer of Sioux Falls, S.D. and two brothers, Arlyn (Rose) Spindler of Hoven, S.D. Kenton (Valerie) Spindler of Genoseo, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Mary Mother Of The Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in La Crosse. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Entombment with military rites by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and the U.S. Army will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends and family may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. where a prayer service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.
