Iva M. Mercier, at the age of 100, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at her home. She was born on March 10, 1912 in St. Charles, MN., to Oscar and Alice (Brown) Hammond. Iva moved to La Crosse, WI., at age seven and resided there the rest of her life. She married George D. Mercier in Caledonia, MN., and they had four children. They later divorced. Iva worked at various places in La Crosse including W.T. Grant Co. for twenty five years before they closed. Iva belonged to Care Connections at Lutheran Hospital, was a volunteer member of the nutrition program and a member of the Harry J. Olson Senior Center . She volunteered at Lutheran Hospital and was a member of R.S.V.P. Iva was a tour escort for A.A.R.P., Chairperson for A.A.R.P., a volunteer for Come for Supper at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, a member of the Grant Girls, and the treasurer for the Varsity Singers. Iva is survived by daughters Patricia Kleven of La Crosse, WI., Dianne Greb of Westminster, CO., son Douglas Mercier of Menomonee Falls, WI., and daughter in law Marion Mercier of Brookfield, WI. Her fourteen grandchildren include Gale (Nidal Saba) Kleven of Dayton, OH., Kathy Greb of Westminster, CO., Bryan Greb of Lincoln, NE., Dan Mercier, Denise Mercier, of Menomonee Falls, WI., Debbie DAmato of Germantown, WI., David (Sue) Mercier of Rubicon, WI., Dennis Mercier, Donald Mercier of Kewaskum, WI., Dale Mercier of Burlington, WI., Jayne (Jim) Rodenkirk of Sussex, WI., James (Terri) Mercier of Westbend, WI., Nancy (Matt) Devereaux of Aurora, CO., and Sandy Mercier of Wauwatosa, WI. Iva had eighteen great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. She is further survived by a special niece Karen Bagniefski and her daughter Kari Osborne of AR., also Joe Preston of Bryson, TX., close nieces and nephews include Marcella, Violet, Virginia, Lorraine, Jennifer and Byron Krueger. Also her loving NY relatives including nephew Joe Pal and daughters Tiscia, Sue, Debbie, Chris, and Brenda. Iva was preceded in death by her parents (Alice Knight), sister Hazell Bagniefski, and son George Mercier. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Vern Skarstad will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, rural La Crosse. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
