Following his graduation from Logan High School in La Crosse, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War and with two tours in Viet Nam retiring from his service in 1973. Bob was an active member in the Gittens Leidel American Legion Post 595 of La Crescent and had served twice as post Commander. Bob retired as a security officer from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center and enjoyed working at the La Crescent Elementary School with the children who knew him as Grandpa Bob.
He is survived by his two daughters, Shelley (Mark) Hiser of Caledonia, MN., Beth (Jeff) Mollet of La Crescent, six grandchildren; Mindy Jo, Jason, Joey, Shannon, Kellie, Emily, six great grandchildren; Mackenzie, Ethan, Rylie, Cassidy, Kylie and Matthew; two brothers Richard McCurdy of Arizona and Warren (Sue) McCurdy of La Crosse and one sister in law Judy Sennes of Hokah, MN. In addition to his wife Janet and his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Stanley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 18th, at 11:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Pastor Mike Woods and Pastor Barb Kopperud will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will take place in the Prince of Peace Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is assisting the family.
