Jean was born in La Crosse on April 18, 1927, to Lloyd and Lucille (Harvey) Olson. She was raised in La Crosse and Postville, Iowa, and was a 1945 graduate of La Crosse Central High School. Jean married Willard Tauscher on April 9, 1947, at the parsonage at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Willard preceded Jean in death on November 18, 2006.
Jean was employed at the La Crosse Garment Co. and the La Crosse Rubber Mills before retiring. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, camping, playing dominoes and cards, and dancing when she was younger. She loved to read and crochet, and also bake sweets to satisfy Willards sweet tooth.
Jean was a life-long member of Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, and also a member of the Womens Auxiliary of American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse.
She is survived by five children, William (Betty) Tauscher, Jeffrey (Vira) Tauscher, and Debra (William) Feyen, all of La Crosse, Robert (Angela) Tauscher of Tumwater, Wash., and Ted (Patsy) Tauscher of La Crescent; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Leona Knutson, Ken Garves, and Doris Thompson, all of La Crosse, Marilyn Senn of Hollywood, Md., and Bonna Tauscher of Onalaska; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas Tauscher; a grandson, Michael Tauscher; a very special uncle and aunt, Errol Fitz and Blanche Fitzgerald; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Orton Knutson, Ardell Garves, Richard Thompson, James Senn, Marvin Tauscher, Calverna and Les Rhodes, and Luella and Gordon Bissen.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 26th, at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse, on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church.
