Geraldine Stanek

Geraldine Geri Stanek, 95 of West Salem passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Mulder Healthcare Center. She was born March 28, 1917 in Richland Center, WI to Victor and Mary (Subera) Stanek and raised in the Hillsboro, WI area. After graduating from Hillsboro High School she attended La Crosse Vocational School for two years where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught in rural schools in the Hillsboro and Yuba areas for four years. During WWII Geri moved to La Crosse where she worked at La Crosse Autolite for many years until the companys closing. She then worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for Woolworths Department Store, Cinema Theater and the Starlite Outdoor Theater. Geri was a lifelong member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 1526 where she served as recorder for many years.

Geri is survived by her sister, Vicki Olson of West Salem along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law; Richard (Betty) Stanek and Harold (Helen) Stanek; a brother-in-law, LaVerne Olson and two special aunts, Josephine Hora and Agnes Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 29th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Rev. Robert Hegenbarth officiating. Entombment will follow in Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from Noon until the time of services
