Joan Y. Jenks, 80 of Onalaska, Wis., passed away peacefully at her home with her daughters by her bedside on Monday, August 27, 2012. She was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 22, 1932 to Robert and Katherine (Smith) Blair. She married Lloyd Jenks on April 4, 1953 and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2012.
Joan had graduated from Central High School in La Crosse then the University of Wisconsin- Stout with her degree in teaching. She had taught in the La Crescent-Hokah School district for 37 years and even in retirement remained active with the Retired Teachers Association. She truly had a deep love for children. Joan enjoyed square dancing, boating, camping, swimming, playing cards and sharing in many activities with the XYL club. Joan will also be remembered for her love of animals especially Dachshunds.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Jenks of Sparta, Jenni Loken of Stevens Point, Wis., six grandchildren, Nicole (Mike) Lockhart, Michael (Kate) Woodward, Marisa, Adam, Brady, Amaya Loken, three great grandchildren, Audrey, Tyler and Maddex.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent located at 111 South Oak St. Pastor Barbara Kopperud will officiate.
