Doris S Mcclintock

d. September 9, 2012

Doris Marion Sayre was born February 5th, 1918, in Decatur, Illinois. She attended Milliken University, where she did her undergraduate work. She went on to achieve her Masters Degree in English. She was a proud sorority sister in Alpha-Chi Omega.

In 1942, Doris, moved to Southern California, and was working at the USC book store, where she met Robert Severtson. They were married at the Cal Neva lodge in Nevada in1949. They briefly lived on the USC Campus, and moved to Monterey Park. They adopted their first child, James Sayre Severtson, born 12-15-1955. Four years later, with a one hour notice, they adopted their daughter, Cynthia Rae Severtson, also born on 12-15-1959. They moved to Sunnyslope Dr. in San Gabriel, shortly after. Doris retired from teaching, so she could raise her family, and support Robert, as he built his Optometry Practice. Doris was an awesome neighborhood mom, along with Linde Kenney, Carleen Caldwell, Phyllis Hjelte, and many others. The neighborhood was such a wonderful place to live. Every year all the kids would put on an annual summer show-"The Sunnyslope Swingers". One year Doris wrote an article bragging about the talent of the production. It was full of skits, songs, and jokes. It was published in the San Marino Tribune. In1972, sadly Doris and Robert's marriage ended.

Doris returned to substitute teaching, and was a volunteer at Huntington Memorial Hospital, in Pasadena. She met Darwin G. McClintock there, and he swept her off her feet.

They were married in August 1973. They enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe, Egypt, and the British Isles. They also enjoyed watching baseball, listening to music, and reading books. Doris was an avid bridge player, and golfer. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Southern and Northern California, and at age 86 and 87, they moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin. As health issues developed for Doris, she lived at Eagle Crest's Memory Care Unit, where she was embraced by the staff. They became her Wisconsin family. They enjoyed her spunk, and hugs. In March 2012, Bethany Riverside became her new home. She continued to make new friends, and again had an incredible staff to care for her.

Doris was proudest of becoming a grandmother. This was a joyous experience for her, and she loved reading to her grandchildren, and playing games with them. She shared her birthday with Logan, he was her best birthday gift, born February 5th, 1988. (70 years apart).

Doris is survived by her son James Severtson, daughter Cindy Hitchman, step daughters Eve Plank and Sue Laman, grandchildren Casey, Logan, Carleen, Laura and Robert, Tom, Ella Siobhan, Wynter Leilani, James Tedante, and four great grandchildren Chase and Olivia (twins), and Eve's two grandchildren. She is an aunt to Barbie, Nancy and John. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darwin on July 14, 2012 and her sister, Lois Wells.

Graveside service will be Wednesday September 12th, 2012 at Oak Grove Cemetery at 2 pm. Rev. Kimberly Jordan will officiate. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
