He was born in La Crosse on January 23, 1944, to James R. and Norma L. (Sagear) Stoeckly, Sr. He was a graduate of La Crosse Central High School and later served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He married Susanne Woyczik on August 24, 1991 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Onalaska.
Following his discharge from the service, Jerry worked for the City of La Crosse for a brief time, and then worked for Dolly Madison Dairy for several years. He then worked for River City Ready Mix for the next 18 years until his retirement. In his retirement years, Jerry drove a tour bus for Lamers Countryside Tours and was known to his friends as Bus Man Jer.
Jerry was a good husband who was loved dearly by his wife Sue. He was also a loving father who was always there for his children and a loyal friend who was ready and willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He enjoyed hunting and golfing in his free time and was also an avid Packer fan. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1254 of La Crosse through which he served as a Wagonmaster for R.E.A.C.T. He was also a member of American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sue; four children, Shelly Stoeckly of La Crosse, Tonya Peterson of Onalaska, Sondra Kabat of Viroqua, and Jerry Stoeckly, Jr. of Onalaska; three step-children, Mike Candahl of Holmen, Deanna Woyczik (Corey Pichler) of Elk Mound, Wis., and Joe Woyczik of Coon Valley; and many grandchildren and step-grandchildren, whom Jerry loved dearly. Jerry is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Lois Fellenz of La Crosse, Jim (Diane) Stoeckly, Jr. of West Salem, Carol (Wencel) Dahl of Janesville, Wis., Mary (Don) Clements of Holmen, Judy (Harold) Smith of Onalaska, Donald (Diane) Stoeckly of La Crosse, Pat (David) Post of La Crosse, Lynda Shepherd, living in Oregon, and David (Jini) Stoeckly of Onalaska; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Don Fellenz; a niece, Debbie Dahl; and two nephews, Mark Fellenz and Steve Clements, who was Jerrys Godson.
Funeral services, followed by military honors, will be held on Thursday, September 20th, at 12:00 noon, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Deacon Richard Sage will officiate. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
