Palma A Gilson

d. September 13, 2012

Palma A. Gilson, 97, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, September 13th, 2012 at the Onalaska Care Center. She was born on September 4, 1915 in Elk Mound, WI to Benjamin and Maybell (Friederich) Ausman. Palma graduated from Elk Mound High School, Eau Claire Teachers College, and Eau Claire Business College. In 1936, while working at the Dunn County Court House, she met Ray Gilson, who was a state income tax auditor in Eau Claire. They were married in 1937 and in 1939 Ray was transferred to La Crosse, where they resided ever since. After a short career as a secretary, she focused on raising her children. They were members of Wesley United Methodist Church, and in 1967 Palma became the Treasurer for the United Methodist Women, a position she held for 36 years. Palma was very proud of her daughters and their families. Throughout their lives Palma and Ray took many fun vacations. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends whether entertaining at home (her specialty was desserts!) or dining out. She also loved music, dancing, and especially playing bridge.

She is survived by two daughters, La Vonne Gilson of West Allis, WI and Shirley (Jim) Kobs of Onalaska, as well as two grandchildren, Lisa and Travis Kobs of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Gill Gilson, and her brother, Ray Friederich.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Pastor Kimberly Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation or the donors choice.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Bethany On Cass, Gundersen Lutheran ER and Hospital, and the Onalaska Care Center for the care and concern they provided.
