She was born on Richmond Ridge in rural Winona County, Minn., on April 24, 1913, to Oscar and Adeline (Yohe) Bauer. On November 7, 1940, she married Albert L. Sanford in Winona and he preceded her in death in October of 1989.
Eleanor was a long-time member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Dakota where she held several church offices over the years and also taught Sunday School for 25 years.
She is survived by two nephews, Gary Bauer and Gale Bauer; several grandnieces and grandnephews; dedicated friends and caregivers, Mary Larson and Signe and Roger Cone, as well as many other special friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Bauer.
Eleanor loved her flower gardens and birds, and tea time with friends. She would like her friends to remember all the good times and celebrate her life.
Do not be sad, I have just gone to my heavenly home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at Riverside United Methodist Church in Dakota. Rev. Greg Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in La Crescent. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 111 So. Oak St., La Crescent, on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of service.
