Maurice Valley

d. September 28, 2012

Maurice James Maury Valley, 81, of La Crosse, WI passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was born on May 28, 1931 in Harpers Ferry, IA to Walter and Elizabeth (Dolan) Valley. Maury was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. He was employed as a truck driver for Lennartz Trucking, Chicago-Dubuque and Dohrn and Halls Transfer. After retirement he drove the La Crosse County Mini Bus and then became a member of the La Crosse County Sheriffs Department, serving in several positions. He was very proud of serving with the men and women in law enforcement.

Maury married the love of his life Betty Wanninger on September 7, 1950. They enjoyed 62 years together. They have four children Stephen (Barbara) Valley of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kay Hauke of La Crescent, MN, Debra (Tom) Johnson of La Crosse and Daniel (Marg) Valley of La Crosse, grandchildren Michael (Laurie) Valley of Jacksonville, FL, Janet (Todd) Kuehl of Madison, WI, Emily (Zach) Graham of West Des Moines, IA, Adam Hauke of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Daniel Johnson of La Crosse, Anthony Johnson of Sun Prairie, WI, Matthew Valley, Ben Valley and Emily Valley all of La Crosse, great grandchildren Michael Valley, Jr. and Abby Valley both of Jacksonville, FL, and his loving companion Pug, Christy. Maury was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl and Floyd Valley and a sister Lucille Cooper.

Maurys hobbies included woodworking, fixing and repairing Lawnboys for family and friends and working on projects for his children and grandchildren. He loved to be known as the Mr. Fix-it of the family. Maury spent many hours at the family cottage with his wife, children and grandchildren. His wish in his life was that his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren could enjoy many hours at the cottage on Lake Neshonoc, which he nick-named, Work Haven. Time together at the lake was time spent a little closer to Heaven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Tuesday from 5-7 PM where a rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM, and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hillview Health Care Center for the loving care given to Maury.
