Delores P. Olson Schroeder, 94, formerly of La Crosse and La Crescent, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, Minn.
She was born in rural Crawford County, Wis., on July 16, 1918, to Iver and Millie (Froiseth) Reed. She married Berger Olson on November 14, 1936, at the parsonage of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in La Crosse. She and Berger farmed in rural Crawford County for several years before moving to La Crosse. She worked in the dry cleaning industry for many years in La Crosse before retiring. Berger preceded her in death on December 3, 1980. Delores then married Rueben Schroeder at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in 1983 and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1999.
Delores was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in La Crosse for nearly 60 years. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose and the Concordia Aid Society and loved dancing at the Concordia Hall. After her marriage to Rueben, Delores moved to La Crescent where she lived until 2008. During that time she was a member of the American Legion Post 595 Auxiliary of La Crescent and also the Eagles Aerie 1254 Auxiliary of La Crosse.
Delores is survived by three sons, Rodger (Clarice) Olson of La Crescent, Rolland (Mary) Olson of Onalaska, and Donavon (Karen) Olson of Eitzen, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Christine (Daniel) Nichols, Charles (Molly) Olson, Julie (Bill) Rebel, Wade (Erika) Olson, Sara Olson, Andy (Amy) Olson, Kurt (Laura) Olson, Damon (Jennifer) Olson, Darrin Olson, Kelly Gordon, and Kimberly (David) Wilson, and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Inez Labus of West Salem, Alice Craig of Ettrick, and Lila (Karl) Oppriecht of New Lisbon, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Verna Reed of Viroqua; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, Delores was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rosella and Lillian Reed; two brothers, Rayness and William Reed; and two brothers-in-law, Dean Labus and Winfred Craig.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18th, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Rev. Thomas Meyer will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
