Elizabeth Ann Hennes

d. October 28, 2012

She was born in Winona, Minn., on December 11, 1925, to Iver and Isabelle (Berg) Odegaard. She grew up in Winona and graduated from Winona High School.

Elizabeth married Raymond M. Hennes on June 26, 1948 in Winona. Ray served in the Marines and US Army as a career soldier which allowed them to experience living in an abundant number of areas including Europe. They later settled in Rock Island, Ill., where Elizabeth worked as a secretary at the Rock Island Arsenal until retirement. Ray passed away in October 2004, and Elizabeth relocated to La Crosse, Wis. to live closer to family including her identical twin sister, Ruth Goggin.

Elizabeth was an avid bridge player, enjoyed gardening and traveling. She enjoyed volunteering her time at the base Thrift Shop with her friends. Her view of the river allowed her to enjoy all the river activity including the eagles. She was always known to have a cat by her side. Most importantly, Elizabeth was a loving wife, and a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Elise Boam of La Crosse, Jay (Laurie) Hennes of Crowley, Texas, and Kim (John) Stanislawski of Winona; six grandchildren, Ryan and Shaun Boam, Rachel Hennes, and Lauren, Jacob, and Michael Stanislawski; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers and three sisters.

It was Elizabeths wish that her body be cremated. A private family burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to your local Humane Society in Elizabeths memory.
