Robert M Gassen

Robert M. Gassen, 80 of La Crosse passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1932 in Richland Center, WI to Mathias and Jessica (Cottrill) Gassen. On November 10, 1956 he married Marcella Marcy Hays at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse and she preceded him in death on June 26, 1995.

Robert had worked for many years in the maintenance department at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his hunting trips out west and his fishing trips to Canada with family and friends.

Robert is survived by his son, Joe Gassen of Trempealeau, WI; five daughters; Rose (Cliffe) Lawton of Cottage Grove, WI, Rita Halverson of Holmen, Jean (Tom) Lyga of Oshkosh, WI, Kay (Mark) Blankenburg of St. Louis Park, MN and Marilyn (Greg) Werner of Genoa, WI; eleven grandchildren; Katie, Jenny and Maggie Lawton, Brenda Fema, Emily Fullwood, Jessica and Rebecca Lyga, Sarah and Zachary Blankenburg, Austin, Henry, Sam, and Molly Werner; three great-grandchildren; his twin-sister, Bobbette (Arby) Boomer of Onalaska along with a brother, Reginald (Catherine) Gassen of Key West, FL. In addition to his wife Marcy, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mathias Gassen, Jr., a sister, Adeline Wetsch and a nephew, Pfc. Jacob Gassen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 7th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Entombment will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.
