Mary is survived by her children, Carolyn (David) Sheldon, Mary Lynne (Barry) Bynum, Dave (Cyndy) Patros, Jim Patros, Paul ( Cindy) Patros, Bob ( Kathy) Patros, daughter in law Louise (Gary)Gerken, Eighteen Grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren, brothers: Mike (Audrey) Markos, Tom (Mary) Markos and sister: Sally (John) Shaheen
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil, son Carl and brothers Joe, Louie (Catherine) and George (Madeline) Markos.
Mary was very involved as a volunteer with Gundersen Lutheran for over 50 years. She was President of the Jr. Auxiliary and attended the first volunteer class for Gundersen Lutheran Hospice program. In years past,Mary volunteered at St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church, Christ Episcopal and St. Patricks Catholic Church in Onalaska and in recent years, has been very active in the North Presbyterian Church. Mary was a professional photographer for the last 40 years and took pictures for many events including the La Crosse Symphony, Oktoberfest and the Childrens Miracle Network Telethon.
Mary performed in Pills-A-Poppin variety shows, was honored as the Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade Marshall, the YWCA Tribute to Outstanding La Crosse Women, Mrs. Senior Wisconsin, Mrs. Oktoberfest, member of the Off-Beat Band, President of the Nakomis Grandmothers Club, President of AARP, member of the Variety Singers, Board Member of Senior Preferred Health Plan, was active in the Children Miracle Network and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Boys and Girls Club. Honored by the La Crosse Symphony where she was a Guest Wanabe conductor, member of The Moose Club and Shrine Auxiliary, and received the Toastmasters Award, the Bishop Freking Award and the Golden Circle 50 Years Award.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at North Presbyterian Church in La Crosse. Pastor Scott Skogen will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Marys memory. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
