Hilda Amelia (Remus) Krueger, age 100, of La Crosse, WI, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center., surrounded by her loving family.
Hilda was born in rural Ettrick, WI on November 7, 1912 to Henrich and Frieda (Gutzman) Remus who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1902. She grew up on a farm in German Coulee and attended Harmon School in rural Ettrick. Hilda was baptized and confirmed at North Beaver Creek Lutheran Church in rural Ettrick. On December 19, 1934, Hilda married Henry (Hank) Krueger at the church parsonage. They lived in the Ettrick and Holmen areas for a short time and then relocated to West Salem where they spent the rest of their married life farming. Hank passed away in 1968 and at that time Hilda sold the farm and moved to La Crosse. She was employed by St. Francis Hospital and after her retirement worked in Home Health Care. Hilda enjoyed the many years she lived at Ping Manor, and developed many great friendships. She had a strong faith and was a member of Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Hilda is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcie (Jim) Storey of La Crosse and Margaret (Tom) Sawyer of Rochester, MN. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Marcies family; June (Artie) Gale and children A.J., Jacob (Beth) and son Rylan, Jolene (Ken) Bertelsen and children Tyler and Kelsey, Jill (Mark) Hamilton and children Megan, Travis, Katlynn, Nathan (Amber) and children Jonas, Kennedy and Addison, Jeffry (Laura) Storey and children Abigail and Elizabeth. Margarets family; Jennifer (Matt) Lundberg,Chris (Jennifer) Sawyer and son Gohan, Ben Sawyer and daughters Morgan and Maya. Also survived by a brother Dick (Irene) Remus, a sister-in-law Ila Remus, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Hank she was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Steven Storey, her siblings and their spouses, Fred (Alvina), Gertie (Norman), Hank (Hattie), Art (Hazel), Bill, Erick (Bessie) Louie (Gert), and Arnie, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Walt (Mabel) Krueger and Gustie (Morris) Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery, Bangor, WI. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Monday from 4:00 7:00 PM, and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank all of Hildas caregivers in her later years for making it possible for her to have a long and full life. A special thank-you to the staff of Bethany St. Joseph Care Center, Hildas many friends, the pastoral staff at Mt. Calvary, Pastor Wassermann, Pastor Lindholm, and Staff Minister Larry Clark for the many visits and compassionate support she received.
