Shirley R Hogan

d. December 21, 2012

She was born January 4, 1947, in La Crosse, WI, to Gerald and Theresa (Graf) Devine. She married John Hogan in 1968. They later divorced, but maintained a friendly relationship. She is survived by two sons, Pat (Christie), who was born November 5, 1969, and Peter (Paula), who was born January 5, 1971. She is also survived by two brothers, Tom (Diane), and Steve Devine, and her grandchildren, Willie, Anna, Jacob, Sydney, and Cody. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She graduated high school from La Crosse Aquinas in 1965. She earned her three year nursing degree from the St. Francis School of Nursing in 1968 and her four year nursing degree from Viterbo University in 2004. She also earned degrees in psychology and art at Viterbo in 1993. During her professional career, she practiced nursing at St. Francis Hospital, Bethany St. Joseph's Nursing Home, and the Gundersen Lutheran Behavioral Health unit until she retired September 30, 2012.

Shirley was a very spiritual woman who maintained a very intimate relationship with God and the Holy Spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She was a talented nurse who took great pride in how she cared for her patients. In her personal life and her professional life she was a caretaker in every sense of the word. Among her hobbies were painting, gardening, and teaching religion class (CCD).

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Although her life was far too short, we take solace in the fact that she had a positive effect on many people's lives and she is now with God.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 27th, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate.
