Helen Weier, 88 of La Crosse passed away in La Crosse at the home of her granddaughter on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. She was born August 19, 1924 in La Crosse to Emmett and Cora (Yehle) Loughan and graduated from Aquinas High School. On April 8, 1942 she married Arnold C. Weier in La Crosse and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1996.

Helen had devoted her life to being a wife, mother and homemaker. She took pride in the fact that her primary concern was for her family. Following the untimely death of their daughter Kathy; Helen and Arnold became guardians of their three grandchildren, whom they lovingly raised for many years.

Helen and Arnold had served on the Board of Directors and active members of NAMI, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of La Crosse County for nearly 30 years. Helen also acted as the area contact for the First Call for Help for NAMI of La Crosse County, as well as serving as the librarian and coordinator of the NAMI annual rummage sale.

Helen is survived by her daughter; Karen (Bill) Fries of Maricopa, AZ; five grandchildren; Jason Fries of Maricopa, AZ, Karen Marie Fries-Wheeler of Scottsdale, AZ, Rick (Jan) Greeno of Burlington, CO, Michelle (Jake) Jacobson of La Crosse and Renee (Paul) Peterson of Ogden, UT; six great-grandchildren; Kristen, Mandy and Randy Jacobson, Carlie Peterson, Rozalyn and Lexi Fries; along with two great-great-grandchildren, Lizzy and Ava Rose. In addition to her husband Arnold, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathlyn Ann Greeno in August of 1977, a grandson, Randy Greeno, three brothers and seven sisters.

Helens family would like to thank the Jacobson family and Helens caregivers; Becky Ehlers, Kathy Abraham, Faith Cunningham, Dale Wallentine and Jackie Carroll for all of their loving care and support.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Avenue S. La Crosse with Rev. Ted Dewald officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.
