Betty Jane (Lafser) Meinzer, 91, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, December 27th 2012. Betty was born on July 19, 1921, in La Crosse to Louis C. and Ella R. (Johnson) Hess. Betty was a 1939 graduate of La Crosse Central High School. After graduation she attended Western Wisconsin Technical School of Business College and worked for a short time at Northern Engraving making shell casings during World War II. Betty married Flight Officer Roy A. Lafser in Hondo, TX on Dec. 18, 1942. Roy died in an Army Air Corps plane crash near Shreveport, LA on Feb. 28, 1943. They had a son, Roy born on Nov. 1, 1943. On Dec. 28, 1945, Betty married Charles E. Meinzer. Charles passed away on Dec. 18, 1994. They had a son Richard C. Meinzer. Betty was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

Betty is survived by her sons; Roy A. Lafser and Richard C. (Bonnie) Meinzer, a grandson; Marcus (Dina) Meinzer, a granddaughter; Tessa Meinzer (Fiancee Zach Weigel), a great-grandson; Beckett Meinzer, a sister; Jean (Ray) Javenkoski, two sisters-in-law; Elva Schneider and Beverly (Louis) Lautz, seven nephews, and three nieces.

In addition to her husbands, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Elenore Hess, Dorothy (Clarence) Tanke, Winifred (Leo) Nelson, Lillian (Les) Beeler and two brothers; Louis (Minnie) Hess, and Robert Hess.

Betty was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 630 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Pastor John Parkyn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am until the time of services.
