Delma Arlene Hogan, 99, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospice. She was born on October 7, 1913 in Pepin, WI to William and Elizabeth (Broach) Varnum. Delma grew up in Pepin and graduated from Pepin High School. She moved to La Crosse for schooling and employment, where she met and married Selmer Sam Hogan in 1934. Their enduring marriage was in its 69th year when Sam died in 2003. They had five children, four sons and one daughter; Dr. James (Judith) of Lake Panasoffkee, FL and Eau Claire, WI, Dennis (Linda) of Austin, TX, David (Jewell) of Lawton, OK, William (Mary Jo) of Milwaukee, and Debra Jane Hogan who preceded her parents in death. Delmas family has six grandchildren, Tim Hogan, Kerry Kolhepp, Mark Hogan, Gwen (Hogan) White, Edward Hogan and Samuel Hogan, three step-grandchildren, Muriel Paulson, Christine Rhode and Adam Joosten, five great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family of dear and good friends and neighbors were held in loving regard. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam, her daughter Debbie, two infant granddaughters, one stepson and her parents.
Delma attended nursing school while she and Sam lived in Milwaukee. Her career in nursing care extended to La Crosse after Sam retired in Milwaukee. Delma had worked for many years at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14th, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 3:00 5:00 PM and at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials are welcome to the donors choice
