Mary K Micki Fries

d. January 31, 2013

" Her nursing career began at St Francis hospital immediately following graduationand She also worked at the La Crosse Clinic and Grandview Clinic. In the late 60s Micki became Director of Nursing for the newly formed Skemp-Grandview Clinic, a position she held until her disease forced her to retire. She was instrumental in the smooth transition when La Crosse Clinic came on board to form Skemp-Grandview La Crosse Clinic in 1979.

She married Mike Fries on October 26th. 1963 at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral and they had two sons.

Micki never met a casino she did not like. She truly enjoyed her annual trips to Las Vegas and was an avid card player and a member of several card clubs. Watching her sons play sports consumed much of her time and she rarely missed a ballgame. Many summer afternoon weekends were spent at ballparks watching baseball games. The winter months were occupied by sitting in bleachers watching basketball from early on with the Onalaska Royal program, all the way through high school.

In addition to the boys ball playing days, Micki loved to watch her Green Bay Packers play football. Nothing was allowed to be scheduled on a fall and winter Sunday afternoon until the Packer season was over.

There was always time for her to help out any organization or individual who needed assistance. Over the years she helped out with the St Pats Blacktop Frolic and volunteered with the Onalaska American Legion until her disease no longer permitted her to do so.

In addition to her husband Mike, she is survived by her son Jim Fries and his children Allison, Austin and Sophia. Her son Mark (Nicole) Fries and their children Rachel and Emma, her Mother-Law Doris Fries, brother Dan Bannen, sisters Kathy (Rollie) Grosskopf, Pat Bannen, sisters-in Law Bonnie Anderson, Mary (Larry) Allen, Brothers-in Law John (JoAnn Lawton) Fries, William (Karen) Fries, daughter in law Beth Fries and many special nieces and nephews.
