James A Zimmerman

James A. Jim Zimmerman, 93, of Onalaska, WI and formerly of Omaha, NE, died on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. He was born on April 27, 1919 in Amazonia, Missouri to Herbert C. and Bessie P. (Logan) Zimmerman. He grew up in Omaha, NE and graduated from Benson High School. He attended Hastings College and the University of Nebraska Omaha, graduating with a business degree. Jim married Helen Scott in 1942 and she preceded him in death in 2007. Jim served in the U.S. Army during WWII from December 11, 1942 to May 31, 1946, including 29 months away from home in Great Britain, France and Germany. After the service he worked at what is now Wells Fargo Bank, working his way up from mail boy to vice president.

Jim is survived by one daughter Mary (Gary) Carlson of Northfield, MN, one son Lee (Joie) Zimmerman of Holmen, WI, five grandchildren Sarah Carlson, Claire Carlson, Alec Zimmerman, Austin Zimmerman and Aden Zimmerman.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 233 West Ave. S., La Crosse, WI. Rev. Dr. J. Taylor Haley will officiate. Memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Homes, Jim Zimmerman Memorial in gratitude for the loving care he received at Eagle Crest Assisted Living.
