Thecla Mae Bauer, 82 of La Crescent, MN, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. She was born in Wyattville, MN, on August 21, 1930 to George T. and Thecla C. (Thesing) Burns. She was a 1948 graduate of Lewiston High School. She married John F. Bauer in Nodine, MN, on February 7, 1951. To this union, three children were born; Eugene (Lori) Bauer of La Crescent, Bruce (Katrina) Bauer of La Crescent and Diane Bauer now deceased.

Together with her husband John, they had owned and operated Bauers Market and Greenhouse in La Crescent for many years. Thecla remained active in the business for many years following the transition of ownership to her sons. She believed in selflessly serving the public and enjoyed meeting the many people who visited the market throughout the years. She always was and forever will be The Queen of Bauers Market. Thecla loved to cook, preparing a variety of many wonderful dishes for her family over the years. Among those, her apple crisp was a favorite. Remaining strong in her faith, Thecla had been a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, La Crescent since 1952.

In addition to her children and her husband John all of La Crescent, Thecla is survived by her grandchildren; Stephanie (Jason) Kennedy, Jessica Bauer, Kiel (Leann) Bauer, Jonathon Bauer, Kory ( special friend Tarah) Bauer, Gabriel Bauer, Lukas Bauer, Elliott Bauer, her great grandchildren Laura Kennedy, Kaitlyn Bauer, Owen Bauer, all of La Crescent, her nine siblings; Rita (Frank) Norton, Kathleen (Lawrence) Putzier, Tim (Nell) Burns, Bill (Marian) Burns, Mary (Joe) Speltz, George (Mary) Burns, Pat (Janet) Burns, Denny (Donna) Burns, Jim (Sue) Burns and one sister in law Gloria Burns. She will also be dearly missed by her husband Johns siblings and their families. Thecla is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving extended family members. In addition to her parents and her daughter Diane, she was preceded in death by one grandson Christopher, one sister Darleen, one brother Anthony, her son in law Al, and two brothers in law Roy and Bob.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Chris Christenson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prince Of Peace Cemetery, rural La Crescent. Friends may call on the family Friday evening from 4 until 7 pm at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel, 111 South Oak St. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Theclas memory.
