She was born on January 11, 1968 in La Crosse to Roger and LuAnn (Veraguth) Krause. She married Christopher Smith on March 28, 1998 in La Crosse. She graduated from West Salem High School in 1986 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, volleyball team, WSHS Band and also a lifeguard at the West Salem swimming pool. She graduated from Northcentral Technical College in 1989 with a degree in Dental Hygiene.

She worked as a dental hygienist for over two decades in La Crosse, with the majority of her career spent working for Dr. David Richardson. She also worked for Dr. Erica Stanek, and Dr. Jeffrey Kent.

Roberta was an avid quilter, seamstress and scrapbooker. She volunteered her time and talents at Gundersen Lutherans annual Steppin Out in Pink by organizing walking teams and sewing quilts and other items to sell at the craft fair. She loved watching her childrens dance recitals and sporting events. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and travelling with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher Smith; one daughter, Christen; one son, Travis; one stepson, Matthew (Allison); her parents, Roger and LuAnn (Veraguth) Krause of West Salem; two sisters, Christie (Carter) Nichols of Eden Prairie, MN and Leora Krause of Chicago, IL; one brother, Carl (Heather Urbanski) of Rochester, MN; three nephews, Samuel Nichols, Osmond Krause and Maximus Krause; and her maternal grandmother, Luella (Schwanke) Veraguth of Fountain City, WI. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Russell and Fern (Hagen) Krause; her maternal grandfather, Chester Veraguth; and one cousin, Gregory Ambuhl.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 359 N. Leonard St., West Salem. Pastors Jonathan Schmidt and Jean Schmidt will officiate. Friends may call at the Schumacher Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, Onalaska Chapel, 907 Sand Lake Road, on Monday from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials be contributed to the scholarship fund for her children.
