Mildred Johnston

Mildred A. Millie Johnston, 92 of Hokah passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent. She was born March 16, 1921 in La Crosse to Oscar and Emma (Kendhammer) Grabhorn. On April 19, 1941 she married Ralph Johnston in La Crosse and he preceded her in death in 1974.

Millie took pride in her many years as a homemaker and helping with the chores on the farm. She later worked in the linen service department at Franciscan-Skemp Medical Center for over 30 years. Millie loved many styles of music and enjoyed playing the accordion, harmonica and piano. She was a longtime member of St. Peters Catholic Parish in Hokah as well as the Hokah Homemakers Club.

Millie is survived by her four children; George (Carol) Johnston and Judy Krause both of La Crescent, MN; Darlene (Mike) Walsh and Larry (Debbie) Johnston both of Hokah, MN; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Johnston of Houston, MN; a sister, Irene Stahl of La Crosse; three brothers, Rueben Grabhorn of North Bend, WI, Calvin (Mary) Grabhorn of La Crosse and Albert (Eunice) Grabhorn of Rockland, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Ralph, she was preceded in death by a son, Tom Johnston; a granddaughter, Lisa Yahnke; a son-in-law, Fred Krause, a sister, Leona Johnson and three brothers, Rudy, Oscar, Jr. and Alfred Grabhorn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 15th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Hokah with Rev. Pratap Reddy Salibindla officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Memorials are suggested to St. Peters Catholic Church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crescent is assisting the family.
