Dorothy H Harnisch

d. July 18, 2013

She was born on October 3, 1923, to Earl H. and Eleanor (Eckart) Michener. Dorothy married James G. Harnisch on June 21, 1947. And as she always said, he was the only man she ever loved, and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage together.

Dorothy graduated from Logan High School in 1942. She then enrolled at the Chicago School of Aircraft Instruments and was trained in the Aircraft Instrument Technicians Training Program conducted at the school for the United States Army Air Forces Air Service Command and received her diploma in June 1944. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February of 1945 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in June of 1946. During her working career after the service, she was employed by Moen Photo in La Crosse for 31 years before retiring.

Dorothy and Jim were never blessed with children of their own, but she loved having children around, and it was evident in the love she showed for all of her nieces, nephews, godchildren, and even the children in her neighborhood. She was caring, thoughtful, giving and had a heart of gold. She loved to fish, and enjoyed many a fishing excursion down at her nephews boathouse throwing in a line off the side. Dorothy also loved sewing, craft making, ceramics, and playing cards. She was dedicated in her Christian faith and Jim and she were long standing members at Trinity Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Jim; a sister, Ione Roland of Mayer, Minn.; a brother, Clarence Bud (Judy) Michener of Holmen; two sisters-in-law, Carol Michener of La Crosse and Dorothy Michener of Black River Falls, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers - James Michener of La Crosse, William Michener of La Crosse, and Douglas Michener of Black River Falls; and 2 sisters - Peggy Erickson of La Crosse and Adeline Moulton of Florida.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Bethany Riverside The Lighthouse, for the years of loving and caring for Dorothy, chasing her down in her wheelchair, and sharing all the I love yous!
