William H. Homstad, 84 of La Crosse died at his home on Monday, August 5, 2013. He was born June 5, 1929 in Chaseburg, WI to Oscar and Amallia (Oium) Homstad and graduated from Viroqua High School. On October 21, 1950 he married Alice Secord at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Bill served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 in La Crosse. He worked as a baker for the Erickson Bakery and then Holsum Bakery in La Crosse and also decorated cakes for Harveys Bakery and Consumers Bakery for many years until his retirement in 1991. Bill loved trout fishing and hunting, especially turkey hunting, flower gardening and was very interested in reading about history. He was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.

In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by two sons; William (Susie) Homstad of Black River Falls, WI and John (Denise) Homstad of Barre Mills, WI; two grandchildren, Matthew and Rachel Homstad both of Barre Mills, WI along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milner Homstad; 3 sisters, Agnes Schroeder, Doris Powers and Irene Homstad.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 9th at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse with Rev. Richard Pamperin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse on Thursday from 5-7 PM, and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. The family suggests memorials be given to First Ev. Lutheran Church or Onalaska Luther High School.
