Eileen M Hanson

Eileen M. Hanson, 74, of La Crosse, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the Hillview Health Care Center, following and nearly 5-year battle with cancer.Eileen was born in rural Crawford County, Wis., on January 7, 1939, to Clifford and Veronica (McEntee) Fjelstad. She was baptized in Viroqua, Wis., and later confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in La Crosse. She attended DeSoto schools and was a 1956 graduate of DeSoto High School. On August 23, 1958, Eileen married Melvin E. Hanson at the South West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Crawford County. Prior to thier moving to La Crosse in 1979, Eileen and Melvin were member of the Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Crawford County. They have been members of Bethel Lutheran Church in La Crosse since 1981.Eileen is survived by her husband, Melvin; five children, Michael (Lynn) Hanson of Genoa, Wis., Curtis (Roxanne) Hanson of West Prairie, Wis., and Shelby Hanson, Bryan Hanson, and Kevin Hanson, all of La Crosse; her grandchildren, Dana Hanson (Cameron Enger), Darcy (Kenk) Yang, Stacey Hanson, Jayme Hanson, Billie Hanson (Doug Caley), Dean Hanson, Amy Hanson, and Emily Hanson, and Pete Peterson; and her great grandchildren, Isabella, Layla, Hannah, Cameron, Evangelina, Bob, and Kailee. She is also survived by two sisters, Janet (Frank) Neumann of The Villages, Fla., and Elaine (David) Hofslien of Willard, Wis.; three brothers, Carold (Andrea) Fjelstad of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Larry (Carol) Fjelstad of Cassville, Wis., and Danny (Julie) Fjelstad of Ferryville, Wis.; two brother-in-laws, John Thompson of Ferryville and Bill Shilling of Racine, Wis.; and two sisters-in-laws, Arlene Hanson of DeSoto, Wis., and Lois Hanson of Viroqua; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford (January 2, 1991) and Veronica (July 2, 2004); sisters, Beverly Shilling (August 19, 2001) and Linda Thompson (December 25, 2003); a brother, Thomas Fjelstad (June 4, 1973); brothers-in-law, Gordon Hanson and Clayton Hanson; and in-laws, Johnny Hanson and Irene (Hunter) Hanson.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, at 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1931 Loomis St., in La Crosse. Rev. Lisa Shenk will officiant. Burial will follow in Walnut Mound Cemetery, near Retreat,Wis., at about 2:30 p.m. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
