Arlene H. (Bezpaletz) Walter, wife of Francis R. Walter, mother of Steven J. Walter, daughter of Martha and John Bezpaletz, and granddaughter of Suzanna and Frank Bezpaletz and Christina and John Feyen, joined the people she loved in heaven. She died in her 83rd year on Thursday, October 10, 2013; just six days after her beloved husband would have been 90 years old. Arlene was born in Alma Center, Wisconsin on November 26, 1929, and was a 1948 graduate of Onalaska High School. She married Francis R. Walter on June 7, 1952, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Onalaska. They lived in Germany for several months following their marriage where Francis served in the U.S. Army, (although he was still a Marine at heart), then settled on a hobby farm in Skunk Hollow on the outskirts of La Crescent. They were proud of the fact that they had planted 7,000 walnut trees on their farm. She and Francis also spent 30 winters together in McAllen, Texas until 2008. Arlene was a long-time member of Crucifixion Parish in La Crescent and was active in the C.C.C.W. As a member, Arlene volunteered at many funeral lunches over the years and, hopefully, many of her fellow C.C.C.W. members are able to attend the catered reception after her service and simply enjoy the meal. Arlene is survived by her son, Steve; two sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on March 6, 2011, and two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 15th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will follow in Crucifixion Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. No monetary gifts to the family are necessary or requested. Your presence at Arlenes funeral mass is all that is needed and very much appreciated.
