John was born in La Crosse on March 13, 1952, the third of five boys born to Ruth (Senn) and Lawrence Stetter. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and Longfellow Junior High School, graduated from Central High School in 1970, and attended U.W.L. for two years. He had been employed by Bions Service Station, Duff Heating, Bob Johnson Oil Co., the City of La Crosse Street Dept., and the Stroh Brewing Co., where was a member of Teamsters Local 1081. At the time of his death, he was in partnership with his wife as owners of Caring Hearts Home Care & Transportation.
On August 25, 1984, John married Susan Heberlein. In 1994, together with his father-in-law, Jack Heberlein, they built their home in Holmen.
John was an avid hunter and loved to fish. He loved the outdoors, especially cutting wood and feeding deer. He enjoyed hunting in Colorado, Wyoming, Canada and his backyard.
John is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter, Katie; his sons, Willy and Cale (Sarah) and their children, Sawyer and Brecken. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Darlene) of Homer, Minn., William (Joan) of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., and Joseph (Ann) of Holmen; sisters-in-law, Sue (Jerry) Severson of La Crosse, Jean (Frank) Muehlenkamp of Camp Douglas, Wis.; brother-in-law, Jim (Lisa) Heberlein of Stoddard; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Stetter, Jason (Jaci) Stetter, Erin (Jeff) Olson, Barry Stetter, Andy Stetter, Hanna Stetter, Aubrey (Ryan) Hesselberg, Matt Heberlein, Marie Heberlein, Rachel (Jay) Tambornino, Kayla, Daniel and Matt Wagner, Jessica (Brad) Westnick, and Lindsey (Stuart) Malingowski; four grand nephews, Maddox and Brady Olson, and Johnny and Noah Tambornino; and four grand nieces, Bronwyn and Breanna Stetter, and Julie and Hadley Hesselberg. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Lawrence Stetter; his brother, Gene Stetter; a nephew, Nate Stetter; and his mother and father-in-law, Pat and Jack Heberlein.
Johns family is extremely grateful for the La Crosse County Sheriffs Dept., Holmen Police Dept., and Holmen First Responders and Paramedics who tried to get him back from Gods arms, but God won. There must be an over population of Big Bucks in heaven.
We were informed that 62 different people received Johns organs and tissue through his organ donation. John was very driven to improve the quality of life of others.
