He was born in Vietnam in 1932 and later married Mung Nguyen in 1955. They lived together in Ho Chi Minh City before relocating to Sparta, Wis. with their children in 1992. Mung preceded him in death on November 10, 2009.
Giac was a faithful member of the Cathedral Parish in La Crosse for many years. He and his wife loved to travel to Vietnam, Texas and Madison, Wis. to visit their children and grandchildren.
Giac is survived by nine children; Joseph (Trieu) of Onalaska, Thuy (Hoa) and Trang (Pha), both of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Thai (Phuong) of Austin, Texas, Van (Nha) and Hanh (Tuong), both of Dallas, Texas, Dai (Chau) of Madison, Wis., and Yen and Chau (Chris), both of La Crosse; sixteen grandchildren; and one sister, Don Nguyen, living in Vietnam. In addition to his wife, Giac was preceded in death by his other siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 14th, at the Marian Chapel of the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Rev. Daniel Oudenhoven will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers and will be donated to an orphanage in Vietnam.
