Rachel Marie Friberg

Rachel Marie (Larson) Friberg, 80, of La Crescent, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.Rachel was born to Palmer and Olga (Brettingen) Larson in Westby, Wisconsin on August 9, 1933. She graduated from Westby High School in 1951 and from Vernon County Teachers College, after which she taught in Vernon County schools for several years. She later worked at Montgomery Ward for many years and as an aide for the La Crosse School District.She married Richard Friberg on December 29, 1953 in Westby, living there until 1960 when they moved to Colby, Wisconsin where they were partners in operating Fribergs IGA. In 1965 they moved to La Crescent, Minnesota. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Quilters there for many years.Richard survives her as do their three daughters, Lynne (Jay) Gile of Bangor, Lori (Don) Tabbert of Onalaska, and Susan (James) Holton of Burnsville, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Melinda (Mathias) Elsen and Joseph Gile, Heidi and Katie Tabbert, and Kira and Maya Holton, and one great-grandchild due in April; one sister Ione Lind of Viroqua, three brothers, Monte (Char) Larson, Roderick (Nancy) Larson and Paul (Shirley) Larson of Janesville, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Orbeck Larson, one sister Audrey Hanson, and two brothers-in-law, Melville Hanson and Merland Lind.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 18th, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Rev. Kent Johnson will officiate. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A lunch will be served afterwards followed by burial services at Westby Coon Prairie Cemetery.
