Theodore F. Hafner, 74 of La Crescent, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. He was born in rural La Crescent township on July 16, 1939 to Leo and Marie (Frappier) Hafner. On July 12, 1958 he married Jeanette J. Stevens and she preceded him in death on October 8, 2006. Ted then married Jane J. Wiseman on February 14, 2009. In his pastime, Ted enjoyed feeding the birds, woodworking, watching his beloved Minnesota Vikings and tinkering in the garage on his model T and model A automobiles however, his greatest love was the time he spent with his family. Throughout his working life Ted held jobs as a welder, house painter and metal fabricator.
In addition to his wife Jane of La Crescent, he is survived by his eight children; Dennis (Gail) Hafner of Auburn, KY, Vickie (Rusty) Kendle of La Crosse, Scott (Cindy) Hafner of Holmen, WI, Chris (Darrin) Gunderson of La Crescent, George (Sabine) Hafner of Canton, MN, Barb (Paul) Leehey of La Crosse, Tracy Hafner- Cunningham of La Crescent, Paul (Kelly) Hafner of La Crescent; one step-daughter Patti (Steve) Burkett of Sheffield, IA, twenty grandchildren; Nikki, James, Ashley,Kimberly, Emily, Terry, Kelly, Katie, Carson, Taylor, Jennifer, Stephanie, P.J. , Schuyler, Tristin, Autumn, Nathan, Trevor, Logan, Lucas, one great granddaughter Jaida, four sisters Corrine Martell of La Crosse, Jane (Al) Heiden of La Crescent, Mary (Glen) Miller of Hokah, Ann Loss of Onalaska, two brothers Larry (Erma) Hafner of La Crescent, Herb Hafner of La Crosse, one brother in law Jerry Stevens of La Crosse, sister in law Beatrice Smith of Waukesha, WI and his very special companion Buttons the poodle. In addition to his first wife Jeanette, he was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Church Of The Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Private family burial will take place in the Crucifixion Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on the family at the church Sunday evening from 4 until 7 P.M. where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will also be held on Monday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the Mass begins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Teds memory.
