La Crosse/Holmen Tom E. Price, 86, (Grandaddy to his grandchildren) left us on Tuesday November 12, 2013 while at home. He was born November 25, 1926 to Thomas Victor and Irma Lee (Gass) Price in Indianapolis, IN. Tom was united in marriage to Charlotte June Lindley on October 20, 1948 at Central Presbyterian Church in Terre Haute, IN.
His parents moved from Indianapolis to Terre Haute when he was quite young. He graduated from Wiley High School in January 1945 and Rose Polytechnic Institute in 1949, both in Terre Haute. He earned his BS in Civil Engineering. Tom and Charlotte moved to Knoxville, TN then Jeffersonville, IN, where Tom was with the Tennessee Valley Authority, before returning to Terre Haute to work with Newlin-Johnson Development Co. In 1965, they moved to La Crosse to work with Gateway Transportation Co. Except for the 14 years they lived in Dallas, TX with East Texas Motor Freight Co. and Cottage Grove, WI with Apollo Construction, they have remained in the La Crosse area with Tom staying active in the civil engineering field.
Tom served in the Army Air Corps from April 1945 until December 1946 in the 38th Air Engineer Squadron, achieving the rank of sergeant and serving in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan in the post-war occupation. Tom and Charlotte were active in the church, delivered mobile-meals, played golf, traveled, ate fish on Friday nights, and thoroughly enjoyed their growing family. Toms interests were fishing, hunting, golf, wood-working, crossword puzzles, and the Packers.
Tom is survived by his four children: Beth (Tom) Regan, McGregor, IA; Vic (Mary) Price, Fall Creek, WI; Amy (Wayne) Delagrave, La Crosse; and Tom (Kathy) Price, La Crosse. Eleven grandchildren survive him: Abby (Jorell) Rohan and Ladd Cyrus; Eric (fiance Mary), Erin, and Anna Price; Katie (Mike) Kroes, Betsy (Mike) Binsfeld, and Allie (Josh) Scheel; Erica (Jeremy) Hansen, Leah (Joe) Mudler, and Jenna Price. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive him: Michael and Grady Kroes, Julia Binsfeld, Eva and Vivian Scheel, Van and Opal Mudler, and Cora, Cooper, Cameron and Cyle Hansen. Tom is further survived by his nieces: Nancy (Ray) Miller, Karen Lindley, Lisa (Randy) Armstrong, Jan (Les) Buhr, Debbie Lindley, and nephews Phil (Linda) Lindley and Mark Lindley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Charlotte in December 2010, by his sister Dorothy J. Kivett in December 2011, brother-in-law Maurice Kivett, brother-in-law Jerrold Lindley, nephew Michael Lindley, and his former son-in-law Michael Cyrus.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 233 West Avenue So., La Crosse. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 12:30 pm until the time of the service at the church. The family may be reached via Toms address at 3007 So. Pleasant Dr., Holmen, WI 54636. In lieu of flowers, the familys wishes are that Memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church for the Building & Grounds Courtyard Project or to Mobile-Meals of La Crosse, 2600 Quarry Rd, La Crosse, WI 54601
