Richard A. Irish Walsh, 78 of La Crosse passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 6, 2013 at his home. Rich was born on January10,1935 in La Crosse to William and Mary (Laughlin) Walsh. He attended Aquinas High School graduating in 1953. Rich enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served in Korea.

On February 27, 1960 he married the love of his life, Virginia Sullivan. They later welcomed six children into their lives. After completing his studies at U.W. Milwaukee, Rich worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation in La Crosse for over 27 years.

Rich enjoyed playing softball, bowling leagues and golf. He loved playing horse shoes or cards with his many friends and family. An avid Packer fan, Rich proudly held season tickets for 52 years.

In addition to his wife of 53 years; children, Bill Walsh of Blaine, MN, Tim (Lori) Walsh of Idaho Falls, ID, Patrick (Pamela) Walsh of Johns Creek, GA, Thomas (Debra) Walsh of La Crosse, WI, Molly (John) Hyland of Stevens Point, WI and Megan (Michael) Ling of Shoreview, MN; 11 grandchildren, Ryan and Sean Walsh of Blaine, Rachel, Colin and Aidan Walsh of Johns Creek, Abbey, Johnny and Maddie Hyland of Stevens Point, and Emilie, Benjamin and Zachary Ling of Shoreview and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Walsh, In-laws, George and Mildred Sullivan, brothers, Harold, Ed and Jim Walsh, sisters, Ruth Tabor and Eleanor Walsh and everyone else who died before yesterday.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Momont for years of compassionate care and Gundersen Hospice for their support during Dads time of need.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Mary Mother of The Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in La Crosse. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Ennichement will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery of La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel, 200 West Ave. South on Tuesday evening from 4:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and again at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Richs memory.
