Betty Jean Starch, 87, of La Crosse, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born on September 5, 1926 in the Town of Jefferson, Vernon County, to Martin and Emma (Mills) Grosskopf. Betty married Edwin C. Starch on June 19, 1947 in Wilton, WI. Betty was a very giving, generous person who loved her flowers and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, traveling, canning, and playing with her grandkids. She was a very active member of Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Betty is survived by two children, Curtis (Debra) Starch and Sherrie (Brian) Alberts, both of La Crosse, five grandchildren, Marty and Mitchell Starch, Kyle Clements, Danielle (Travis) Dale, and Cole Alberts, two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Mahlum and Clayton Dale, brothers and sisters-in-law, Reuben (Mary Louise) Starch of Coon Valley, Helen Starch of Madison, and Marilyn Pertzsch of La Crosse, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in 1999 and her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23thrdth, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse on Sunday from 4:00 7:00 PM and at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, the Alzheimers Association, or the Childrens Miracle Network.
