Doris D Williams

Doris was born on March 12, 1927, in rural Winona County to Emil and Amelia (Ready) Mades. She was baptized on October 30, 1927 in her parents home and was confirmed on March 17, 1940, at Ridgeway Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona County by Pastor Richard W. Mueller. On May 24, 1947, Doris married George W. Williams at the home of Doris sister and brother-in-law, Adelia and Leonard Wolff, in La Crescent. George preceded her in death on October 4, 2003.

Doris volunteered for many years for La Crosse ARC, Houston County ARC, Camp Winnebago, Houston County DAC, and Houston County Group Homes, Inc. She also was skilled at sewing, mending, and enjoyed canning vegetables from Georges garden. She babysat for all her nieces and nephews and especially loved having her three grandkids to care for.

She is survived by a daughter, Corrine Williams of Caledonia, Minn.; two sons, George C. Williams (special friend, Char Kness) of Dakota, Minn., and Dale W. (Terri) Williams of La Crescent; three grandchildren, Justine (David) Vanderzee, Melissa Williams, and Josh Williams, along with nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, George, she was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Herbert, Emil Tud, and Frank Mades; and two sisters, Adelia Dede Wolff and Ameta Maida Wagner.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27th, at 11:00 A.M., at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Pastor Chris Christenson will officiate. Burial will follow at Bush Cemetery in rural Winona County. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent Chapel, at 111 South Oak St., and one hour prior to time of service on Friday at the church.
