Shawn Charles Carroll, 55, of La Crosse, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse after a short illness. Shawn was born on January 30, 1958 in La Crosse to Robert Kootch and Marilyn (Purdy) Carroll. Shawn attended Cathedral Grade School, where he served as a member of the Bishops Choristers. He attended Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Central High School in 1976. Shawn overcame several learning disabilities during his school years, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from UW-Stout in 1981. An ardent sports fan, Shawn could cite statistics and trivia for any number of pro and college sports. He loved the Badgers, the Packers, and the Twins. Shawn was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Carroll of La Crosse, by his sisters, Kathleen Murray of La Quinta, CA, Maureen Carroll (M. Scott Ott) of La Crosse, and Bridget Heilman of La Crosse, by his brothers, Timothy Carroll and Brian Carroll of La Crosse, Dan (Linda) Carroll of Onalaska, and Kevin (Monica) Carroll of Holmen, and by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18thth, th2014 at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Msgr. Charles D. Stoetzel will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse on Friday from 5:00 7:00 PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare Foundation.
The Carroll family wishes to thank the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System, especially the Intensive Care Unit, the staff at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home, and Nanette Harter of La Crosse County Human Services Department for the many kindnesses they showed Shawn during his final illness.
Shawn was a dutiful son and a wonderful brother. He will be missed by his family and by his many friends.
